On the night of November 15th, our wetland was the victim of an act of vandalism. Park rangers informed of the the tragic incident, and the team went out the following morning to salvage materials. Our team was heartbroken that the wetland has been impacted, but we were determined to find a solution.
The wetland had been pulled onto shore and the bamboo backbone had been snapped in multiple locations. It appeared that a fishing line had gotten caught on the outside fencing and the wetland had been stepped on in an attempt to retrieve the lure.
After recovering the remaining salvageable materials, out team attempted to consolidate them into one smaller wetland, until they had the ability to recreate the larger original one. This new wetland was 1/4th of the size of the original, but still held lots of plants. After a full day of being at the lake, our team launched the new wetland and looked forward to coming back to continue building the wetland back up to original size!
